Hiking Safety in Cape Town

Cape Town’s stunning mountains and scenic trails make it a hiker’s paradise — but even the most experienced adventurers need to take precautions. Changing weather, rugged terrain, and limited signal in some areas mean that proper planning is essential. Whether you’re heading up Lion’s Head for sunrise or tackling a more remote route, your safety should always come first.

From the Wilderness Search and Rescue Trust:

In South Africa, there is no charge for rescue services. So we urge everyone not to hesitate to call for help rather then trying to ‘rescue themselves’ in order to avoid a hefty fee and become a casualty while doing so.

In case of emergency on the mountains, keep this number saved on your phone: 021 937 0300
